An updated visual identity and design framework for the UK’s largest LGBTQ+ archive, venue and learning centre.

Proudly independent for 125 years, Bishopsgate Institute approached me to update and clarify their visual language to better represent the building and it’s community.

The new visual identity is a reflection of Bishopsgate Institute’s ethos, culture and history.  Home to the UK’s largest LGBTQ+ archive as well as multiple performance and rehearsal venues and a committed and curious learning community, the new visual language revovles around the phrase, ‘Traditional meets Radical’. Energy sparks in the meeting of the historic and trusted with the surprising and unexpected. Respecting heritage and revealing playfulness, discovering vitality and cherishing tradition.

Vibrant and playful, the concept uses the interplay of colour and symbol to bring vitality to the creative work, inviting people to engage and learn with their diverse community. The typography and neutral supporting colour palette retains a sense of elegance and quality.
